Morning dawns on the lodge at Mopan River Resort

This building houses the reception, lounge, and dining room

We are your hosts: Kim and Ron Chrysler.

We believe that you will find Mopan River Resort is the most beautiful, and comfortable property in Belize with the Mopan River at our doorstep, and wonderful water views from every cabaña and suite. The resort is connected to the national power grid, and the city water supply, providing 24 hour services to the entire property. We also have a beautiful swimming pool, for cool dips after hot trips; and for simply lounging around, if you choose to sit out from the day's adventure!

Mopan River Resort was created by Pam and Jay Picon, who, throughout their world travels and many years touring Belize, learned how to provide a quality experience to guests--and offer it at a great value. Pam and Jay have moved on to retirement, and the resort is now owned and operated by Kim and Ron Chrysler, formerly of Edmonton, Canada; and carrying on the great Mopan tradition.

Our all-inclusive program appeals as much to the independent traveller, as to those accustomed to package tours. Because we have a maximum capacity of 25 guests, our excursion groups are always small, with no more than 10-12 people. There's no skimping on fun and excitement, as you'll visit the best sites the region has to offer. And the day's end always brings you back to total comfort, a sociable atmosphere, and the best food around!

We have cultivated 10 acres of lush gardens amongst the existing mature grove of coconut, avocado, mango, citrus and cedar trees. We've recently acquired an adjacent 78 acres of natural jungle habitat, allowing us to extend the resort area to include a birding trail. Some of the many birds you will see here are herons, kingfishers, toucans, parrots, jays, warblers and hummingbirds. Wildlife visitors consist of the kinkajoo, gray fox, and agouti, to name a few. A 20 ft. high bird watching tower, near the pool, is also a great vantage point for spotting exotic tropical birds in the surrounding jungle; in addition to enjoying the panoramic view.

Every morning, our dining room serves a continental buffet, as well as a hot breakfast and heavenly soft cinnamon buns. Lunch focuses mainly on locally inspired dishes, such as salbutes, taco salad, and chimichangas. Dinner presents exotic Asian cuisines, and Italian or Mexican menus prepared by our talented kitchen staff. Sample dishes include: Thai curry, Spaghetti Carbonara, or Cashew Chicken; as well as barbecues, and traditional Belizean food. Our cuisine has been featured in the July 2003 issue of Gourmet Magazine!

Hors d'oeuvres are served with cocktails every evening as our guests gather in the lounge (pictured at right) to tell great tales of the day's adventures.

Twice a week, you will enjoy the sounds of marimba music by local musicians. (We have our own marimba, hand-crafted for us by a local artisan.)

Rest assured, you will always remember your Mopan River experience, which combines comfort, uniqueness, adventure, and enjoyment...all at a great price. We will care for you from start to finish, operating all transfers and excursions with our own vehicles, and licensed guides and drivers employed by us. All combined, Mopan River Resort is guaranteed to provide you with the best Cayo experience!
Mopan River Resort promotes socially conscious tourism by having their guests learn about, and directly experience, the historical, cultural and natural environment of Belize. They are committed to creating economic opportunities for the local community and training members of the community in skills that enable them to support their families while sustaining the unique environment in western Belize.  They donate significant funds to educate the children who live across the river in Benque Viejo del Carmen.  Our affilliate Belize Christian Ministry accepts donations from the resort guests, and supports the education of the children in this community so that they become literate, self-sufficient, and knowledgeable about their environment and culture.
